The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group

The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) represent the sovereign identity, collective aspirations and strategic vision of Africa’s premier intergovernmental platform for cooperation on critical minerals development.

Adopted as the official visual symbols of the Organization, the Emblem and Flag embody Africa’s commitment to mineral sovereignty, continental industrialization, responsible stewardship of natural resources and the advancement of a unified African voice in shaping the future of global energy, digital infrastructure and strategic industries.

Together, the Emblem and Flag reflect the enduring spirit, dignity and strategic importance of the African continent and serve as visible symbols of unity, cooperation and institutional purpose among Member States of the Organization.

The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group were formally approved by the Ministerial Steering Committee on 30 January 2024 and serve as the principal institutional symbols of the Organization.

Official Code Governing the AMSG Emblem and Flag

The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group serve as the principal visual symbols of the Organization and represent the collective identity, institutional authority and strategic aspirations of Member States.

The following provisions establish the framework governing the official use, display, protection and ceremonial dignity of the symbols of the Organization.

OFFICIAL EMBLEM

The AMSG Emblem

The Emblem of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) represents Africa’s collective vision for strategic minerals cooperation, continental sovereignty, industrial transformation and responsible stewardship of Africa’s natural resources.

At the centre of the emblem is the monumental letter “A”, symbolizing Africa as the foundation, anchor and strategic driver of the Organization. The prominence of the “A” reflects Africa’s rising leadership in shaping the future of global energy systems, digital infrastructure, manufacturing and strategic industrial development.

The African continent positioned within the emblem signifies the unity of African nations and the shared commitment of Member States to advance cooperation, value addition, responsible sourcing and long-term economic transformation through the sustainable development of Africa’s mineral resources.

The gold colour of the emblem represents Africa’s mineral wealth, prosperity, dignity, excellence and the immense strategic value of the continent’s natural resources to both Africa and the global economy. The black background symbolizes resilience, authority, strength and the enduring spirit of Africa.

The Emblem of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group was formally approved by the Ministerial Steering Committee on 30 January 2024 and serves as the official symbol of the Organization.

The AMSG Flag

The Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) embodies the collective aspirations of African nations for strategic minerals cooperation, industrial transformation and continental resource sovereignty.

The black field of the flag represents resilience, authority, strength and the enduring spirit of Africa. It reflects the determination of African nations to secure greater control, value addition and strategic benefit from the continent’s natural resources.

The gold emblem symbolizes Africa’s immense mineral wealth, prosperity, dignity and rising importance in shaping the future global energy, digital and industrial economy.

The flag serves as the principal visual symbol of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group and may be displayed at official meetings, ministerial engagements, diplomatic events, summits, conferences and authorized activities of the Organization.

The Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group was adopted following the approval of the official Emblem by the Ministerial Steering Committee on 30 January 2024.

DISPLAY OF THE FLAG

The Ceremonial and Institutional Display of the AMSG Flag

The Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group shall be displayed as a symbol of continental cooperation, institutional dignity and strategic African solidarity in the development of critical minerals and strategic natural resources.

The Flag may be flown at the Permanent Headquarters of the Organization, official meetings, General Assemblies, Ministerial Steering Committee sessions, diplomatic engagements, summits, conferences, forums, ceremonial functions and all authorized activities organized or recognized by the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

The Flag may also be displayed alongside the national flags of Member States, host countries and partner institutions in accordance with accepted diplomatic protocol and institutional precedence.

When displayed, the Flag shall be accorded dignity, visibility and respectful treatment consistent with its status as an official symbol of an African continental intergovernmental organization.

MEMBER STATE DISPLAY

Use of the AMSG Flag by Member States

Member States of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group are encouraged to display the AMSG Flag within Ministries, Departments, Agencies and official institutions responsible for minerals, mining, energy, strategic resources, industrialization and related sectors.

The Flag may be displayed at Ministerial Offices, conference facilities, strategic national institutions, official receptions and government premises associated with the implementation of the objectives and programs of the Organization.

The display of the Flag within Member States signifies continental unity, cooperation, shared responsibility and collective commitment toward Africa’s mineral sovereignty, responsible resource governance and industrial transformation.

The use of the Flag by Member States shall remain consistent with the dignity, integrity and institutional character of the Organization.

OFFICIAL MISSIONS

Display at Official Missions, Headquarters and Residences

The Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group may be displayed at the Permanent Headquarters of the Organization, official liaison offices, accredited missions, diplomatic engagements and residences officially designated for the leadership and authorized representatives of the Organization.

The Flag may also be displayed during official travel, bilateral engagements, continental forums and ceremonial receptions involving the Secretary-General, Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Ministers, official delegations and representatives of the Organization.

The display of the Flag at such locations and engagements signifies the official presence, authority and institutional representation of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

The Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group may additionally be displayed on official motorcades and authorized vehicles designated for the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, accredited Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives and other duly authorized officials of the Organization during official missions, diplomatic engagements, ceremonial functions and institutional activities.

The display of the Flag on such official vehicles signifies the institutional authority, diplomatic representation and official presence of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

DIGNITY OF THE FLAG

Respect, Honour and Institutional Integrity

The AMSG Flag shall be treated with honour, dignity and respect at all times as a symbol of Africa’s minerals collective aspirations, sovereign cooperation and strategic future.

No act shall be undertaken which discredits, dishonours or diminishes the integrity, symbolism or institutional standing of the Flag or Emblem of the Organization.

The Flag shall not be displayed in a damaged, altered, distorted or inappropriate manner inconsistent with the values and dignity of the Organization.

All persons and institutions authorized to display the Flag shall ensure that it is maintained and presented in a manner befitting an intergovernmental continental institution.

PROHIBITED USES

Restrictions on Unauthorized and Improper Use

The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group shall not be used for unauthorized commercial, political, misleading, defamatory or inappropriate purposes inconsistent with the mandate, objectives and institutional integrity of the Organization.

The Emblem and Flag shall not be reproduced, altered or used in any manner that falsely implies endorsement, accreditation or official authorization by the Organization without prior approval.

No individual, institution, company or entity shall use the Emblem or Flag in a manner that undermines the dignity, neutrality, credibility or reputation of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

The Organization reserves the right to regulate, restrict or prohibit the unauthorized use of its official symbols.

INSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY

Custodianship and Protection of Official Symbols

The Africa Minerals Strategy Group shall retain full institutional authority over the Emblem and Flag of the Organization and shall regulate their official use, protection and reproduction.

The Secretary-General, acting on behalf of the Organization and under the guidance of the appropriate governing organs, shall oversee the administration, preservation and authorized use of the Emblem and Flag.

Member States, partner institutions, accredited representatives and authorized entities using the Emblem or Flag shall uphold the dignity, integrity and institutional values represented by the official symbols of the Organization.

The Emblem and Flag of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group shall remain enduring symbols of Africa’s unity, strategic cooperation, responsible stewardship and shared continental destiny.
