AMSG Secretary-General Delivers Keynote in Mauritania

7th Mining, Oil & Energy Conference and Exhibition – Nouakchott, 8 September 2025

H.E. Moses Micheal Engadu, Secretary-General of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), delivered a keynote address under the theme “Africa’s Mineral Resources in the Face of the Global Energy Transition: African Vision & Leadership.”

““Africa is the youngest continent, standing on the oldest resources, at the dawn of the newest revolution. This paradox is our power. Africa must go far – together.”
– H.E Moses Micheal Engadu, AMSG Secretary-General

The Secretary-General was invited by H.E. Thiam Tidjani, Minister of Mines and Industry of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and was accompanied by H.E. Nani Juwara, Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines of The Gambia; H.E. Commissaire-Colonel Ousmane Abarc, Minister of Mines of Niger; H.E. Umaru Napoleon Koroma, Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources of Sierra Leone; H.E. Madam Agatha Engadu, Spouse of the AMSG Secretary-General; Mr. Patrick Mulindwa Lubega, AMSG Chief of Staff; and Ms. Ney Lody, Special Assistant to the Secretary-General and Principal Interpreter.

The event was officially inaugurated by H.E. the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, underscoring the strategic importance of Africa’s mineral future. On the sidelines, the Secretary-General also held an engagement with Hon. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco.

In his address, he stressed that Africa must transform its mineral wealth into dignity, industries, and energy security. He highlighted four core imperatives — value addition, exploration and data sovereignty, financing Africa’s mineral future, and critical minerals security — and outlined five pillars for action, including beneficiation, responsible sourcing, and tokenization through the Africa Mineral Token.

Finally, he extended a formal invitation to Mauritania and all African states to join AMSG and announced the upcoming Second AMSG High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa to be held on 22 September 2025 during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.
