Leadership of the General Assembly
The General Assembly elects the leadership of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group in accordance with the AMSG Charter and decisions of Member States. The elected leadership provides strategic guidance and political oversight for the Organization’s continental mandate and institutional development.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria was elected as the first substantive Chairperson of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group General Assembly during the First General Assembly held on 15 January 2026 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

From Vision to Action: The Ministers Leading AMSG
While the General Assembly provides continental direction, AMSG’s Ministerial Leadership provides strategic oversight, policy coordination and implementation guidance. Led by elected Ministers from Member States, the Ministerial Steering Committee is responsible for advancing Africa’s collective minerals agenda and ensuring that decisions of the General Assembly are translated into tangible outcomes.
