The Federal Republic of Nigeria was elected as the first substantive Chairperson of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group General Assembly during the First General Assembly held on 15 January 2026 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Democratic Republic of Congo was elected as the first substantive Vice Chairperson of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group General Assembly during the First General Assembly held on 15 January 2026 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While the General Assembly provides continental direction, AMSG’s Ministerial Leadership provides strategic oversight, policy coordination and implementation guidance. Led by elected Ministers from Member States, the Ministerial Steering Committee is responsible for advancing Africa’s collective minerals agenda and ensuring that decisions of the General Assembly are translated into tangible outcomes.
