AMSG Secretary-General Officiates Closing of the Inaugural African Mining Week, Declares Dawn of a Continental Mining Legacy

Cape Town, South Africa – 3 October 2025

The Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) officially brought the inaugural African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 to a close at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), with a powerful address delivered by H.E. Moses Micheal Engadu, Secretary-General of AMSG.

From the promise on Day 1 to the commitments sealed today, we stand at the threshold of Africa’s mining renaissance, declared the Secretary-General in his official closing remarks titled From Cape Town to Continental Transformation – The African Mining Legacy Begins.

From Dialogue to Destiny: A Week That Shifted the Continental Conversation

Over three transformative days, African Mining Week evolved from vision to legacy:

  • Day 1 offered bold declarations of intent,

  • Day 2 galvanized spirited debate and cross-sector partnerships,

  • Day 3 solidified clear pathways of implementation, shaped by ministerial commitments and strategic frameworks.

  • H.E. Engadu emphasized that mineral transformation begins with mineral knowledge, reaffirming the AMSG Mineral Exploration Initiative as the cornerstone of Africa’s future sovereignty.

Before we can transform, we must explore. Exploration is not a cost – it is the seed of every future harvest.

A Story That Becomes a Mandate

To illustrate the urgency of beneficiation and retained value, the Secretary-General shared the story of a young girl in a mining town who once asked her father:

Why do we send away our treasures when our schools have mud floors, and our roads remain unpaved?

H.E Engadu reflected:

For decades, there was silence. But today, that silence is replaced with action – refineries rising in our provinces, digital traceability through Madini, financing unlocked through the Africa Mineral Token.

Four Pillars for Continental Delivery

In his final charge, H.E. Engadu urged all delegates to leave Cape Town not with applause – but with delivery.

He called on governments, institutions, and partners to commit to:

  1. Negotiating as One Africa through unified mineral diplomacy.

  2. Investing in Government-Led Exploration as the foundation of sovereignty and planning.

  3. Building Industrial Corridors and Regional Processing Hubs.

  4. Upholding Digital Sovereignty through the Madini Blockchain Platform and Africa Mineral Token (AMT).

Looking Forward: From Cape Town to Dubai and Beyond

The Secretary-General affirmed that African Mining Week is not an end — it is a launchpad.

  • On 24 November 2025, AMSG will convene the Second Africa Mining Forum at the Dubai Precious Metals Conference, where commitments made in Cape Town will be advanced from pledges to signatures.

  • Planning is underway for African Mining Week 2026, which will serve as a benchmark of progress and proof of Africa’s resolve.

It will be the moment we show the world that Africa’s mining story is no longer a preface – but a full chapter of industrial sovereignty and shared prosperity.

Closing Benediction

May our minerals bear not just metal, but meaning.
May our investments plant not just factories, but futures.
May our legacy be not that we extracted Africa’s wealth – but that we birthed Africa’s hope.

With gratitude to the organizers, Ministers, strategic partners, sponsors, and delegates, the Secretary-General formally declared:

We launched not just a conference – but a continental mission. Let Africa’s mining legacy begin – not in words, but in deeds.
