15 January 2026 – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
The Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) is pleased to announce that the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been elected as the First Substantive Chairperson of AMSG during the First General Assembly held on 15 January 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Nigeria is represented by H.E. Dr. Oladele Henry Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, whose leadership has been central to AMSG since its inception in January 2024. Nigeria previously served as Pioneer Chair (2024-2026) during the Organisation’s interim phase, playing a foundational role in shaping AMSG’s governance systems, institutional mandate, and continental positioning.
As Chairperson, Nigeria will guide AMSG through a two-year term, strengthening continental minerals diplomacy, advancing governance reforms, and driving the implementation of Africa’s unified minerals agenda.
This election reflects the trust of AMSG Member States in Nigeria’s strategic leadership, regional influence, and commitment to a responsible, value-driven minerals sector across Africa.
