About AMSG Steering Committee

The AMSG Technical Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of AMSG’s initiatives. This committee is tasked with providing the necessary knowledge, insights, and resources to support the implementation of AMSG’s goals. With its strong focus on research, technological development, and sustainable practices, the Technical Committee ensures that Africa’s mineral sector evolves in a way that meets the demands of both the present and the future.

Composition of the Technical Committee

For the first Technical Committee, each founding member nation will appoint two representatives. These representatives will bring their national expertise, knowledge of regional mineral resources, and insights into the challenges and opportunities within their respective countries’ mining sectors. With a diverse mix of technical skills and regional perspectives, the inaugural Technical Committee will be well-equipped to provide strategic, actionable recommendations to the Ministerial Steering Committee.

The appointment of two representatives from each founding nation ensures a balance of expertise across key areas such as resource exploration, mining technology, sustainability practices, and local beneficiation. The members will work together to identify best practices, research developments, and innovative solutions that can be scaled across the continent to drive Africa’s mining sector forward.

Key Responsibilities of the Technical Committee

The Technical Committee is entrusted with several critical responsibilities that will shape the success of AMSG’s mission:

  1. Providing Technical Guidance
The committee will offer expert advice to the Ministerial Steering Committee on matters related to exploration, extraction, beneficiation, and the environmental sustainability of the mining sector.
  2. Facilitating Technology and Innovation
The committee will focus on promoting technological advancements and innovation in Africa’s mining sector, ensuring that the continent stays ahead of global trends and optimizes its mineral resources.
  3. Supporting Capacity Building
By leveraging expertise and knowledge-sharing, the Technical Committee will help build the capacity of African nations to develop and manage their mining sectors, enhancing skills development, resource governance, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies.
  4. Driving Sustainability
The committee will ensure that sustainability is at the heart of Africa’s mining activities, providing recommendations for environmentally responsible mining practices and supporting the transition to green technologies.
  5. Research and Development
The committee will oversee research initiatives aimed at unlocking new mineral exploration techniques, improving extraction processes, and advancing beneficiation technologies that add value to Africa’s mineral resources.

A Strong Foundation for Africa’s Mineral Future

The AMSG Technical Committee is essential to realizing the group’s vision of transforming Africa’s mineral sector into a global leader in sustainability, innovation, and economic growth. By combining the expertise of each member nation, the committee will play a central role in addressing the continent’s challenges and leveraging its mineral wealth for long-term prosperity.

Through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technical excellence, the AMSG Technical Committee will help pave the way for Africa to become a key player in the global minerals economy and drive the successful implementation of AMSG’s ambitious goals.
