AMSG Establishment Meeting at the 3rd Future Minerals Forum 2024

The Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) was established on 9 January 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Roundtable of the 3rd Future Minerals Forum. Ministers of Minerals and Mining from 16 African countries convened to create a continental cooperation mechanism to strengthen Africa’s voice and role in critical minerals development.
The meeting marked the beginning of AMSG’s mandate to facilitate international cooperation in the minerals and mining sector among African Member States, promote exploration, local beneficiation, value addition and commercialization, and advance a sustainable, transparent and secure supply of critical minerals driven by Africa.
During the meeting, the Federal Republic of Nigeria was selected as the Pioneer Chair of AMSG, the Republic of Uganda was designated as the Interim Host of the AMSG Secretariat, and H.E. Moses Micheal Engadu was appointed as the Founding Secretary-General to lead the operationalization and institutional development of the Organization.
