Office of the Deputy Secretary-General
The Office of the Deputy Secretary-General was established by the First General Assembly of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group on 15 January 2026 as part of the institutional strengthening of the Secretariat.
The Deputy Secretary-General supports the Secretary-General in advancing the decisions of the General Assembly, coordinating Secretariat operations, strengthening engagement with Member States and strategic partners, and supporting implementation of the Organization’s continental mandate.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania was elected by the First General Assembly to nominate and appoint the first Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization.
