The investiture of President Tinubu marks the commencement of the first constitutional leadership of the General Assembly and reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to advancing coordinated African mineral cooperation.

01. Assumption of Constitutional Office

Following Nigeria’s ratification of the AMSG Charter, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally assumed office as the First Chairperson of the General Assembly of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

The investiture followed the presentation of the Certificate of Election and the reading of the Declaration of Office in accordance with the decisions of the First General Assembly of AMSG. The Investiture Ceremony presided over by H.E Moses Micheal Engadu AMSG Secretary-General was attended by H.E Dr. Oladele Henry Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairperson of the AMSG Ministerial Steering Committee, H.E Losuba Loduru Wongo, Minister of Mining of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E Ali Hassan Joho, Cabinet Secretary of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, H.E R. Matenokay Tingban, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Liberia, H.E Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Minister of Steel Development. of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Mulindwa, AMSG Chief of Staff, the Chief of Staff and Special Advisors to H.E the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

02. Mandate of the General Assembly

The General Assembly serves as the supreme policy-making organ of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group and provides overall strategic direction for the Organization.

As Chairperson of the General Assembly, President Tinubu will guide the work of Member Nations in advancing the objectives of the Charter, strengthening African cooperation and promoting responsible mineral development across the continent.

The Investiture Ceremony was held on 23 June 2026 at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, immediately following Nigeria’s ratification of the AMSG Charter. During the ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally assumed office as the First Chairperson of the AMSG General Assembly for the constitutional term commencing on 15 January 2026.
